Haldimand County

Haldimand County is a rural municipality in Southwestern Ontario. With over 80 kilometres of Lake Erie shoreline and the Grand River within its borders, it offers an abundance of options for paddling, nature viewing and fishing.

History buffs will also find many locations of interest in the county. Notably, this includes the Cottonwood Mansion Museum and Ruthven Park National Historic Site, two museums that give visitors the chance to experience life as it was in the 19th century.

The county is also known for craft breweries like the Concession Road Brewing Company and Blue Elephant Artisan Brewery.

Where is Haldimand County?

Located on the Niagara Peninsula, Haldimand County is an easy drive from several urban areas including the Greater Toronto Area, the city of Hamilton and Niagara Falls. 

The region is also near three U.S. border crossings: the Peace Bridge between Buffalo and Fort Erie, the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls and the Queenston Lewiston Bridge. The region is most easily explored by car or motorcycle.

Learn how to paint

Located in the town of Cayuga, Wildwood Art Gallery & Studio offers painting classes for kids, along with a gallery of oil paintings, prints and painting kits that can be purchased.

Explore a provincial park

Lace up your hiking boots and discover Haldimand County’s Selkirk Provincial Park. The park is known for the Wheeler’s Walk Trail, a wooden boardwalk across a marsh and wetland.

Enjoy some craft beer

Housed in an old firehall in the town of Jarvis, Concession Road Brewing was the county’s first microbrewery. Sample their small batch brews alongside a meal in their on-site taproom.

Watch a drag race

Car racing enthusiasts will enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of Toronto Motorsport Park, an NHRA-rated drag strip. Live drag races are scheduled from August through to September.

Visit a historic estate

Spend a day exploring the Ruthven Park National Historic Site in the town of Cayuga. This well-preserved mid-19th-century estate sits on over 600 hectares along the Grand River.

Shop at a farmers’ market

Shoppers looking for fresh seasonal produce will find what they’re looking for at the downtown Hagersville Farmers’ Market. The market runs every Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
