One of Ontario’s most spectacular natural destinations, enjoy a range of year-round outdoor activities and scenic landscapes at Pinery Provincial Park. Nestled on the shores of Lake Huron, the park features everything from hiking, biking and ski trails to water channels, sand dunes, sandy beaches and a beautiful forest canopy.

Swim, paddle and fish in the clear waters of Lake Huron during the warmer months or go cross-country skiing along an extensive network of looping trails in the winter. The park is also home to various wildlife, offering ample opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife spotting.

How to get to Pinery Provincial Park

Location: 9526 Lakeshore Road, Grand Bend

By car: The park is a 1.5-hour drive along County Road 5 from Kitchener and an hour on County Road 24 from London. Parking is available.

By transit: VIA Rail provides train service to London. From the station, take London Transit to Masonville Mall, then Huron Shores Transit to Lambton Heritage. Walk eight minutes south to the park.

Know before you go

Make reservations for camping or for daily vehicle permits online or over the phone. All vehicles must park in a designated area and display a valid park permit.

Keep dogs on a leash. You cannot bring your dog to the swimming area or the beach.

Have fun in the sun

Enjoy a 10-kilometre stretch of sandy beach crystal waters of Lake Huron.

Gear up for the season

Rent canoes, kayaks, bikes and cross-country skis from the park’s rental shops and stop in the Pinery Provincial Park Visitor Centre for camping gear and groceries.

Explore the trails

Nature trails feature different highlights, from the sand dune ridge and old pine forest growth to walking along the Old Ausable Channel.

Spot wildlife

Watch for white-tailed deer, beavers, raccoons and coyotes. March is the best time to witness the spectacular migration of the Tundra Swan.

Experience winter fun

Pinery transforms into a winter wonderland with 40 kilometres of ski trails, two walking trails for snowshoeing and year-round campgrounds opportunities.

Sleep in nature

Set up camp at one of the three campsites; Riverside is open year-round, while Burley and Dunes are open from May to September.

Interesting facts about Pinery Provincial Park

Pinery Provincial Park is over 2,500 hectares in size and is home to a thriving and diverse ecosystem, as well as a long shoreline, sand dunes, water channel and the largest area of rare Oak Savanna in all of Ontario.

With over 800 varieties of plants, 300 species of birds, 32 mammals and 29 species of reptiles and amphibians, there is also great wildlife viewing opportunities.

And stick around to watch the sunset across Lake Huron—it’s one you’ll remember. The park’s sunsets are ranked by National Geographic as among the “Top 10 Best in the World.”

Accessible parking

At least one identified, reserved parking  space with a safe, clearly marked  accessible route from the designated  parking area to an accessible building  entrance.

Accessible recreation trails

One or more accessible trails with firm  and stable surface. All slopes, ramps,  handrails, boardwalks and signage  comply with the technical requirements  of Ontario's accessibility laws.

Accessible washroom

An accessible washroom stall has  adequate manoeuvring room for mobility  devices. Includes grab bars, transfer  space, accessible door latch, sink with  knee clearance, and lever handles or  automatic sensor faucets. 

Service animals welcome

Service animal can be identified by visual  indicators (guide dog or other animal  wearing a vest/harness); or  documentation available from a  regulated health professional to confirm  the animal is required due to a disability. 

Support persons welcome

Support persons are welcome to provide  services or assistance with  communication, mobility, personal care,  medical needs or access to facilities.  Please check with the organization about  entry fees, if applicable.
