Indigenous experiences
The land we now call Ontario was originally inhabited by Indigenous Peoples, including the First Nations, the Inuit and the Métis. The Cree Nation stretches to the shores of James Bay in the north, the Haudenosaunee are located in the south, and the Anishinabek Nation are located all around the Great Lakes region.
Today we are grateful for the revitalization, preservation and sharing of Indigenous Peoples' cultures, offering opportunities to experience this land through the lens of its original inhabitants.
Indigenous experiences enrich Ontario’s tourism landscape by providing visitors with the opportunity to learn about and experience the unique arts, cultures and cuisines of the Indigenous Peoples of the region.
Indigenous Tourism Ontario is focused on the growth of Indigenous tourism in the province by providing support for Indigenous People to tell their stories on their terms. In this way, we can offer high-quality, authentic experiences that are developed and delivered by Indigenous People and communities.
Explore their deep-rooted connection to the land by engaging with Indigenous People, tour operators and experience providers on guided nature tours and outdoor excursions. Learn about their cultures through artistic expression, traditional and contemporary cuisines and at festivals and celebrations.
