How to get to Frontenac Provincial Park

Location: 6700 Salmon Lake Road, Sydenham

By car: Best accessed by car, Frontenac Provincial Park is a two-hour drive southwest of Ottawa and halfway between Toronto and Montreal. On-site parking is available with a daily vehicle permit.

Know before you go

Frontenac operates year-round. The visitor centre features a gift shop, washrooms and snowshoe rentals.

Motorized vehicles are prohibited within the park, so explore on foot or by paddle.

Make camping and day visit reservations well in advance, especially on weekends from April to November.

Celebrate hiking

Choose from over 100 kilometres of hiking trails, ranging from an easy 30-minute loop to a 21-kilometre trail. TrailsFest is an annual two-day summer celebration of the beautiful and biodiverse Frontenac Arch Biosphere Region.

During summer, these refreshing lakes are perfect for swimming.

Visit in the fall, when the trees turn into a kaleidoscope of autumn colours, and the temperature is ideal for hiking and sitting around a campfire at night watching the sunset.

Experience wildlife viewing

Watch for white-tailed deer, black bears, moose, otters, wolves, beavers and over 170 bird species, including hawks, osprey and bald eagles.

Interesting facts about Frontenac Provincial Park

Frontenac Provincial Park is part of the Frontenac Axis, a 2.1-billion-year-old rocky landscape once part of an ancient mountain chain bordering the Canadian Shield and the Adirondack Mountains. The park is dotted with granite outcrops and deep, crystal-clear lakes that were carved out during the last ice age.

Before becoming a park, the area was home to early settlement hamlets, farms and mines. While exploring, you may stumble upon old ruins and abandoned places.
