Families love visiting Ottawa for so many reasons. Canada’s capital is known for national museums, galleries and cultural centres of the highest calibre, gorgeous green spaces and great Canadian foodie favourites like Beavertails and Poutine.

In addition, you’ll find super fun amusement parks and entertainment venues designed to get you moving, teach new skills and most importantly, have a blast together.

East of downtown

Calypso Waterpark

On a hot summer day, there’s no better place to beat the heat and have the ultimate family adventure than Calypso Theme Waterpark. Canada’s largest theme park has 35 slides, two themed rivers and over 100 water games to explore.

From age-appropriate, kid-friendly play areas and state-of-the-art waterslides to wave pools that produce the largest waves in the country, there are enough activities to keep everyone from young toddlers to older thrill-seekers engaged and entertained.

There are also plenty of spots on the premises to grab good food to eat and enough thirst-quenching drinks to enjoy while basking poolside or lounging in a private cabana.

Calypso Waterpark is approximately half an hour drive east of downtown Ottawa.

Ferme Proulx Farm

Known for its production of delicious maple syrup products, there are a lot of kid-approved adventures at Ferme Proulx Farm. Maple syrup season is always a treat at the farm and the berry farm provides pick-your-own strawberries, raspberries and blueberries during the summer.

Take a hayride through the “Mysterious Forest,” visit the animals at the petting zoo and climb, slide and swing on the giant playground. Be sure to visit the pancake house to try the pancakes topped with mouthwatering maple syrup from the farm.

Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park

For families who love to stay active, Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park is the perfect Ottawa amusement park. With 1,900 square metres of trampolines, ropes courses and playgrounds, there is no shortage of fun to be had at Flying Squirrel. Embody the flying squirrel as you jump from trampoline to trampoline or make like a monkey and climb your way around a ropes course.

The playground and ropes course are designed for kids under 12 but the climbing walls are open to all ages. There’s also a toddler zone so your very little ones can get in on the action. Although you may not consider eating after jumping on the trampolines, The Drey Restaurant inside the facility offers custom pizzas and chips, as well as healthy snacks.

Funhaven

This extensive amusement park is filled with games, rides and activities that will keep kids excited and entertained for days.

Whether you have young ones who want to try their hand at bumper cars or older kids who want to climb the rock wall, Funhaven has it all. Great food and drinks, like artisanal pizzas and craft beers, will keep parents happy too.

South of downtown

Saunders Farm

Saunders Farm is on 40 hectares of land just a 30-minute drive south of downtown, in the community of Munster. Year-round programming is available for the kids to enjoy. During the summer months, cool down at the splash pad, take a hayride around the farm, enjoy the rustic farm scenery and gardens and find the perfect spot to have a picnic.

Forgot your picnic basket? There’s plenty of food to buy at the Farmer’s Table cafe featuring fresh ingredients directly from the farm. There’s also a pirate ship on the property the kids will want to check out. During harvest season, in addition to purchasing farm-fresh produce, explore the twelve mazes on the farm.

Pirate Life Theatre

Kids can dress up in their favourite pirate outfit at this theatrical water adventure on the Rideau River. While aboard the 13-metre ship, the entire family can enjoy an engaging hour-long adventure cruise filled with pirate-themed activities led by a friendly crew.

Kids will look for sunken treasure, fire water cannons and enjoy various other swashbuckling drama that they’ll be talking about for days to come.
