Interesting facts about Blue Mountain Resort

Established in 1941 by European ski instructor Jozo Weider, Blue Mountain Resort offers visitors the look and feel of the Alps.

While in his 20s, Weider built a ski chalet in the mountains of present-day Slovakia. In 1939, he emigrated to Canada with his family in anticipation of World War II, eventually settling in Quebec City. In 1941 Weider met Peter Campbell, a lawyer interested in building a skiing area in Collingwood.

Weider and Campbell bought nine acres of land from two ski clubs who had already been developing the area for skiing. From there, the iconic Blue Mountain Resort was born.
