Interesting facts about Deerhurst Resort
Deerhurst Resort was founded in 1896 by a young and ambitious Englishman named Charles Waterhouse. It was the first major resort on a northern Muskoka lake and, at the time, was only accessible by steamship. The resort remained with the Waterhouse family for three generations, and Charles later became credited as “the pioneer in the summer resort business on these shores.”
During the 1980’s, Deerhurst Resort developed its entertainment program. One of the many artists to grace the stage was Eileen Twain, a young singer from Timmins who rose to superstardom as Shania Twain.
